A power grid is a network of hardworking sources that provide electricity to homes and businesses. Grids ensure a constant balance between supply and demand to keep everything running smoothly, and are absolutely essential to maintain a functioning society’s day to day activity. Functioning similarly to an actual power grid supplying a customer field with electricity, The Grid is GoTEN’s community of monthly donors who provide steady, dependable support for our Training Center. Each monthly gift acts like a current of energy, keeping the programs running strong every single day.

The Grid empowers refugee kids like Hamza, a two-year-old boy from Afghanistan, who has been deeply impacted by the GoTEN Kids program. When he first arrived, he was overwhelmed and would cry whenever he entered the room. Through the patience and care of our teachers, Hamza slowly began to feel safe, make friends, and learn new skills. Over time, his fear turned into laughter, play, and even learning his first English word, "Yes." This small but powerful moment showed how far he had come, building confidence that will help shape his future. Thanks to the GoTEN Kids program, Hamza now experiences joy, belonging, and a strong foundation for growth.

The Grid empowers English learners like Kwame, a refugee from Africa, who has made incredible progress through GoTEN’s English classes. When he first arrived in the U.S. in November 2024, he didn’t know a single word of English and had to rely on family members to translate for him. After enrolling in our beginner’s English class in February 2025, he began working one-on-one with a dedicated volunteer. Kwame quickly became one of our most consistent students, often arriving early and eager to learn. In just a few months, he has learned to confidently greet others with phrases like “Good morning” and “Have a good day.” Thanks to the support he receives at GoTEN, Kwame is gaining the language skills and confidence he needs to thrive in his new home.

The Grid empowers refugee women like Soraya, a refugee from Afghanistan, who has experienced life-changing impact through GoTEN’s sewing program. Since joining in 2022, she has sold 187 handmade products, earning $4,670 to help support her family. Beyond the financial support, Soraya has found something even more valuable — a community. Through the sewing program, she has built friendships with Christian women, learned new skills, and created a sense of belonging in a new country. Thanks to the opportunities provided through GoTEN Sewing, Soraya is not only providing for her family but also thriving in a supportive and caring community.

Hamza, Kwame and Soraya represent a small picture of what the GoTEN Training Center does every day in Phoenix’s refugee community. Helping refugees learn English, get jobs, and most importantly, experience Christian community is at the core of GoTEN’s purpose. The Training Center serves as the epicenter of where these connections occur, and without the faithful empowerment provided by the Grid, none of it would be possible. Your support, multiplied by the support of other key members of the Grid, directly impacts the day to day lives and futures of numerous refugees across the Valley. Would you consider making your impact and joining The Grid today?
